I agree with you in that Juolevi SHOULD go the the AHL next year, but he can't, so, he's better off in the NHL with limited minutes.
Junior is a waste of a year for him next year. Although it didn't hurt Edler spending his 19 year old year in junior and his 20 year old year in the AHL. - LeftCoaster
Thanks Carol continuing with the prospect theme and issues on development. From the last thread there was a spurious debate.
Such as the turnaround from where Lefty agreed with Marwood. Who called people: "clueless idiots" that don't know that OJ should stay in junior. As seen above Lefty changed to agree it's the right thing OJ doesn't stay there.
Good to know we have open minds here. Maybe there can be progression on how times are changing with development routes for prospects as well. It's not that old junior to AHL to NHL standard anymore.
Like the NCAA has become a very good league. Above CHL who are typically younger at 16-20 instead of 18-22 NCAA. Plus NCAA has more high end talent, staying out of CHL route, choosing college route through developmental leagues like the USHL.
The high end talent from NCAA and other development leagues is closing in on AHL in talent. Which can be a rougher league with more goons. The AHL is suffering a gap for several reasons. CHL talent is being ushered into the NHL. Other leagues in Europe and NCAA are developing NHL entry ready talent as well. Tree for the Nucks is an example. Dhalen may be next.
It's a new world of younger players coming in to the NHL and from different leagues too. The AHL is becoming less the place for high end talent development and more a depth roster with projects and longshots. |

For sure there has been a change. I also agree the CHL is the weakest out the leagues to develop in, BUT I think there are exceptions. The London Knights organization is one of them. If Juolevi has a great camp, I have no problem with him making the Canucks. I also have no problem with him going back to a staff at the CHL that has the quality that London has. That's just my opinion, I think their track record speaks for itself though in terms of developing NHL caliber players. |

I've been a big proponent of this strategy, the Leafs have done this and stockpiled extra draft picks and players while doing it. this is a FA call as spending to the cap with a losing team... not sexy on his end, But definitely would speed up the process IMO. |

With all the RFA's to sign hard to say if that's an option at all. Cap floor teams can do it because they need the contracts. The Nucks are no where close to that. |

I dunno, but i would (although i'd try to somehow make it a 1st in 2018 somehow).
Kari Lehtonen ($5.9m), 2018 1st for the rights to Anton Rodin and CBJ 2nd.
frees up cap space for Dallas to make a push and sign some UFA's or make further trades.
Dallas also has Jiri Hudler, Alex Hemsky and Patrick Sharp salaries coming off the books (unless resigned), about $12m.
18m if they got rid of Kari too. |

Thought of that a couple months back. What sweetener would the Stars be willing to give up to help them out of their jam in goal? |

We prolly can expect OJ to see a 9 game audition is my guess.
If not & back to Jr is fine since no other option. |

I agree it's not a likely scenario and probably not a good one. Better off pursuing cheap UFAs and trading them at the deadline. Greater flexibility that way as opposed to loading up with one bad contract |

The NHL is trending towards a younger league as skill takes more prevalence for sure. As for Juolevi, I think it's lost on some folks he's only STILL 18 years old, myself included, for some reason I always think he's older when I think of him. Next year he'll play the entire year as a 19 year old, it's really not uncommon for a 19 year old to spend a third season in the OHL.
Pronnman is adamant Joulevi wasn't even the best dman on his team let alone the league. That said, I'd like to see him play against men not boys next year. |

I am not cheering for Kassian. Good for him he turned his life around and Screw off for wasting our time and draft pick.

If you are taking a bad contract it has to be for a first rounder or a very good prospect |

We didn't draft Kassian. Hodgson wasted our pick, Kassian wasted our trade. |

I didn't think that part needed to be explained. I figured that was obvious but shame on me for assuming |

Depending on our cap situation, Dallas 2017 1st + Neimi or Lehtonen for our 2nd. Pick up Foote(or Makar if he slips, not likely). |
